Mockingjay WIP

I've got sooo much I'm meant to be doing but it turns out listening to 'Catching Fire' while I did do wasn't the best idea in terms of focusing on the task at hand. From now on I'm sticking to Bill Bryson's 'A Short History Of Nearly Everything' which is fascinating, but doesn't make me spend days doing fanart.

This is a work in progress - I haven't worked at all upon the wings element of the costume. But since I have to be productive all weekend (boo) that'll probably come next week.

The Secret Games, or The Hunger Garden

Look! I found another early edition of this little-regarded Puffin classic - printed under their now-defunct Mockingjay imprint.

I don't know now whether I AM commenting on how much young adult fiction has changed. In all honesty I can totally imagine a book like The Hunger Games being published back the 60s. Children's fiction has a long history of subversion, and it's really only in more recent year it's come to be as relatively closely monitored and censored.

It doesn't stop the Secret Garden/Hunger Games contrast being amusing to me, of course. I realised I'd missed the Mockingjay/Puffin trick on the first go so amended it:

The Hunger Games (60s edition)

Because no book should be without it's early-60s Puffin edition, even if it was published in 2008. I adapted this from this cover of Little Women, from 1963.

If I were to try t cobble together a legitimate reason for doing this (it took a day! A day!) I guess I was thinking about how much fiction for young women has changed in the last century or so. But basically I'm just a Puffin geek.
